As the Year Winds Down: Reflections on Business, Family, and Momentum
As the year comes to a close, inboxes fill up, calendars get weird, and suddenly every conversation starts with, “Let’s pick this up in January.”
And that’s okay.
The end of the year is a strange mix of reflection, exhaustion, optimism, and leftover cookies. It’s also when we’re reminded of what actually matters most. Family. And the people who quietly keep everything moving, even when our schedules make very little sense. We’re incredibly grateful (because we know it won’t last) for the afterschool conversations, the college application complaints, the complaints about track practice, the complaints about having to do chores — and especially for my hardworking, endlessly supportive wife, who somehow keeps all of it running (beautifully, like her) while making it look easy. But also for the patience, encouragement, and for showing up every day with love, support, and the occasional reminder that no matter how busy things get, someone still needs to ask, “Dad… what’s for dinner?”
It’s also the time of year when we finally get a moment to lift our heads up and ask a simple question:
How did we do this year?
For us, the answer is simple. We’re grateful. Grateful for the work, the trust, and the conversations that reminded us why we do what we do in the first place — helping businesses make thoughtful decisions that actually move things forward. For businesses that didn’t just want something new, but wanted something better.
We’re grateful for the lessons too — from the wins, the delays, the clients who took their sweet time finding the “Pay Now” button, the “how is this still not done?” moments, and the extra revisions.
And yes, we’re grateful for recognition as well. Awards are never the goal (well, sometimes they are), but they’re a nice reminder that thoughtful work still matters.
Mostly though, we’re grateful for momentum. The quiet kind. The kind that shows up as better conversations, better projects, and better alignment with our clients and network.
As we head into the holidays, we’re taking a breath. Wrapping things up. Making notes for January. And February. And March… Reminding ourselves that progress doesn’t always announce itself. Sometimes it just sneaks up quietly, like Tootsie, our dog, suddenly wedging herself under your hand on the couch until, before you even realize it, someone’s getting belly rubs.
We hope you do the same. Not sneak up on the couch for belly rubs, but take a moment to appreciate what you built this year too. Even if it felt messy. Especially if it felt messy.
We’ll see you in the new year. Rested. Recharged. And ready for whatever comes next.
Happy holidays.
